Title: The Milkman
Author: Carl Foskett Cordsen Illustrated: Douglas B. Jones

Pages of Book: 32 Pages
Publisher: Puffin

Summary: This book tells about about the local milkman and his normal morning. He gets up at very early and drives into town. He delivers milk to everyones doorstep as most are still asleep. This particular morning while he is delivering he sees a lost dog sign. At one of the stops he thinks he hears something. He looks under a box and finds the lost dog and takes it to his owner. He makes his last stops as the sun is rising and then drives back home and is greeted by his family.

Reaction: I really though this was a well written book. The illustrations are very well done. As the book progresses the illustrator adds warmer colors to hint that it is gradually getting earlier. It is written in a type of poem form. I think that children would find that fun.

Problem: The neighbors dog is missing.

Recommendation: I think this is a great book for children today. Many children don't know who a milkman is because there aren't any anymore. I think they would have fun reading about how their parents/grandparents got their milk.

Everyday Ruby would pray for God to forgive these people. She made a huge impact on our history.

Reaction: I loved this book and the many different profound messages that children could get out of it.

Problem: The whites dislike the black and don't think that they should be allowed in what was a whites only school.

Recommendation: I would recommend this book for several reasons. Mainly because of the message that you can take from it.

Reaction: Even though this is a controversial book, I loved it. I do agree that you would need to explain and discuss this book with children after they read it.

Problem: Gilly want to live with her own mother. She doesn't treat the Trotters very nicely.

Recommendation: I would recommend this book, like I said before I would use some caution. Though it really didn't have anything that major.
