On Noah's Ark

Title: On Noah’s Ark
Author: Jan Brett                           Copyright Date: 2003
Genre: Fiction                               Pages of Book: 29 Pages
Publisher: G. P. Putnam’s Sons     Reading Level: Ages 4-8

Summary: It is a story of Noah’s Ark seen through the eyes of Noah’s granddaughter. Noah tells her that the rains are coming and he is going to build an ark. When the ark is ready the animals go in two by two. It is squishy in the ark with all the animals. The rains start and pretty soon they can only see the tops of mountains. The animals start pushing and shoving each other and it is her job to keep them calm. The rocking puts the animals to sleep and when they wake they see the rain has stopped. They steer to land and the animals get off and go to different parts of the land. She says that some of the animals stay with them and then her and Noah plant seeds and settle in.

Reaction: I thought it was a clever idea for Jan Brett to write this through the eyes of Noah’s Granddaughter. I love all of Jan Brett’s books though. Her illustrations are amazing. The amount of detail she puts into each one of her pictures is just so fun to look at.

Problems: The rain is going to come and so they need to build an ark.

Recommendation: I would recommend to everyone no matter the age. Many kids even if they can’t read would love just looking at these pictures. Adults would love looking at these pictures as well.
